Why it matters

Most small business sites lose traffic to problems nobody looks for

A website rarely fails loudly. It fails quietly: a missing meta description here, a second H1 there, images without alt text, a homepage that takes 1.4 seconds to send its first byte. Individually none of these sink a site. Together they decide whether you appear above a competitor or three positions below them — and three positions is most of the traffic.

This audit looks at the things that are cheap to fix and expensive to ignore. It reads the page the way a crawler does, checks the response headers the way a browser does, and reports what it finds without the jargon. You do not need to understand canonical tags to act on the result; every check explains what the problem is and what to do about it.

What the audit checks

SEO basics — 30% of the score

The elements search engines read first: the title tag and its length, the meta description, whether the page has exactly one H1, whether a canonical URL is declared, whether a stray noindex is quietly blocking the page from ranking at all, and whether the document language is set. A noindex left over from a staging site is the single most common reason a page ranks for nothing.

Content — 20%

Word count against a realistic threshold, heading hierarchy and whether levels are skipped, how many images are missing alt text, and how many internal links the page carries. Thin pages with no internal links are invisible to crawlers and unconvincing to buyers.

Technical health — 25%

Mobile viewport, HTTPS, gzip or Brotli compression, HTML weight, time to first byte, favicon, JSON-LD structured data, and whether robots.txt and an XML sitemap exist. Server response time above 600 ms usually points at hosting or a missing cache layer, and it affects every page you own at once.

Social sharing — 10%

Open Graph title, description and image, plus the Twitter card type. Without them, a link shared on WhatsApp, Facebook or LinkedIn renders as a bare URL — and bare URLs get a fraction of the clicks a preview card gets.

Security — 15%

HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy, clickjacking protection through CSP or X-Frame-Options, and mixed content. These headers cost nothing to add and are increasingly treated as basic hygiene, including by clients running their own vendor checks on you.

How to read your score

The overall number is a weighted average, not a verdict. A site scoring 72 with clean fundamentals and weak security headers is in far better shape than one scoring 72 because it has good headers and no H1. That is why the report puts the failed checks at the top: fix those five, re-run, and watch the number move.

Use the score as a baseline you return to. Run the audit before a redesign and after it. Run it monthly. Run it on the competitor who keeps outranking you, then use the competitor comparison tool to see the difference laid out metric by metric.

How it works

Three steps, about ten seconds

  1. Paste the URL

Any publicly reachable page. Homepage, landing page, product page — whichever one matters most to your business right now.

  2. We fetch and parse it

The page is requested once, exactly as a search engine would, along with your robots.txt and sitemap. Nothing is stored and nothing is shared.

  3. You get the report

A score, a category breakdown, the five issues worth fixing first, and every individual check with an explanation you can hand to a developer.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is this website audit really free?

Yes. No account, no email gate, no trial that expires. Paste a URL, read the report. Each visitor gets a reasonable number of audits per hour so the tool stays fast for everyone.

Does it crawl my whole website?

No — it analyses the single URL you submit, plus robots.txt and sitemap.xml. That keeps results instant. Most site-wide patterns show up on the homepage anyway, and you can run the tool on as many individual pages as you like.

How is the score calculated?

Every check passes, half-passes or fails. Each category averages its own checks, and the total weights SEO basics at 30%, technical at 25%, content at 20%, security at 15% and social sharing at 10%.

Can I audit someone else's site?

Yes, any public page works. For a direct head-to-head, the competitor comparison tool runs the same checks on up to four sites and marks which one wins each metric.

Why does my score differ from other audit tools?

Every tool picks its own checks and weights. Use the number to track your own progress and to compare against direct competitors, not as an absolute grade. The individual checks are where the value is.

My site is behind a login — can you still audit it?

No. The tool only reads pages that are publicly reachable, the same ones search engines can see. If a page needs a password, a crawler cannot rank it either.
