Instagram bios, LinkedIn posts, Facebook comments, YouTube descriptions, forum signatures — none of them accept HTML, and most strip Markdown too. What they do accept is Unicode, because as far as the platform is concerned bold letters are just characters, no different from an emoji or an accent.

That is the trick this tool uses. It maps your letters onto the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, where bold, italic, script, monospace and double-struck versions of the alphabet already exist as distinct characters. Copy the result, paste it anywhere, and the styling survives — because there is no styling, only different letters.

Use it sparingly and it works: one bold line at the top of a bio, a single emphasised phrase in a long post. Use it on entire paragraphs and it stops being emphasis and becomes noise.

Worth knowing

  • Screen readers announce these characters one by one or skip them, so never put essential information in styled text alone.
  • Search engines and platform search do not index these as normal letters. Keep your name and keywords in plain text.
  • Some older Android keyboards and a few email clients show empty boxes. Check on a phone before publishing a bio.

Questions

Frequently asked

Why does the formatting survive a copy and paste?

Because it is not formatting. Each styled letter is a separate Unicode character, so it travels as plain text and no platform can strip it.

Is this bad for accessibility?

It can be. Screen readers may read the characters individually or skip them entirely. Use it for decoration, never for information that must be understood.

Will it hurt my SEO?

Styled characters are not indexed as the equivalent normal letters, so anything you want found should stay in plain text.
